Xbox Game Pass Price in Australia: Every Tier Broken Down

Four tiers, four prices, and zero clarity from Microsoft’s own store pages: that’s the usual xbox game pass price australia hunt. One subscription streams to your TV, another skips consoles entirely, and none of it is obvious until you’ve opened six browser tabs. Searches for an Xbox Game Pass price increase in Australia spike whenever Microsoft touches its store pages, but the only confirmed change this year was a cut, not a hike. Here’s every tier priced out straight, so you pick once and move on.

The Four Plans at a Glance

PlanMonthly Price14-Day Trial Game Pass Essential AU$12.95 AU$1.00 PC Game Pass AU$16.95 AU$1.00 Game Pass Premium AU$17.95 AU$1.00 Game Pass Ultimate AU$25.95 Promo only (varies)

All prices are sourced directly from Microsoft’s Australian Xbox store. Every plan renews automatically unless cancelled through your Microsoft Account.

These numbers reflect a cut made earlier this year, not an Xbox Game Pass price increase. If you’ve seen chatter about that, the reality in Australia ran the other way: Xbox Game Pass Ultimate was AU$35.95/month before the Xbox Game Pass Ultimate price drop in April 2026, and PC Game Pass has come down from AU$19.45.

The trigger was Microsoft pulling day-one Call of Duty access from both tiers: new entries in the series will now join Game Pass roughly a year after launch instead of on release day, while everything already in the library stays put.

Xbox Game Pass Essential: AU$12.95/month

The entry tier covers 50+ games playable on PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S, plus online console multiplayer and, from November 2026, 5 hours of cloud gaming per month. Existing Australian members are reportedly exempt from these caps for as long as their subscription keeps auto-renewing, so the limits mainly hit new sign-ups.

The library includes titles like Fallout 4, Fallout 76, Gears 5, Grounded, Deep Rock Galactic, and Stardew Valley. For players who mostly stick to a handful of games and don’t need day-one access to new Xbox releases, this is a reasonable floor.

PC Game Pass: AU$16.95/month

At AU$16.95, PC Game Pass sits between Essential and Premium and is console-free by design. The library climbs to 300+ PC titles and includes EA Play, which adds a catalogue of EA games plus early access to new EA releases.

This one is straightforward. PC Game Pass skips cloud streaming altogether, so if you’re PC-only and don’t need to stream to other devices, it’s a better deal per dollar than Premium.

Xbox Game Pass Premium: AU$17.95/month

Premium covers 200+ games on PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S, with online console multiplayer and, from November 2026, 10 hours of cloud gaming monthly. The library includes titles like Hogwarts Legacy, Diablo IV, and Metaphor: ReFantazio. Microsoft’s Game Pass Premium page confirms new Xbox-published games join within 12 months of launch, with Call of Duty titles excluded.

Players earn up to 2x Rewards points on this tier. Cloud gaming streams to mobile, tablet, TV, and VR headset, and in-game benefits apply across free-to-play titles including League of Legends, Call of Duty: Warzone, and Rainbow Six Siege. The AU$1.00 trial makes it easy to sample. At 14 days, it’s the lowest-risk way to test the tier before committing.

Xbox Game Pass Ultimate: AU$25.95/month

Ultimate is the top tier. It’s also the most feature-dense. The library expands to 500+ games, cloud playtime rises to 15 hours per month starting in November 2026, and day-one access covers new Xbox-published games at launch, Call of Duty excepted, not within 12 months like Premium.

Beyond the library, Ultimate adds Fortnite Crew, EA Play, and Ubisoft+ Classics (50+ games). Rewards points multiply at 4x, and the program allows players to earn up to 100,000 Rewards points annually in the Store. Online console multiplayer is included, as it is across every tier except PC Game Pass.

The gap from Premium to Ultimate is AU$8.00/month. The clearest justification for that jump is day-one access: Gears of War: E-Day already landed as a day-one Game Pass title in October 2026, and Valor Mortis and Forever Ago followed within days, so the first-party calendar keeps day-one access worth paying for.

Fable and Persona 4 Revival push the case into early 2027. Both are confirmed for Game Pass day one when they land in February 2027. It’s a release pipeline that’s stronger than it’s been in years, reinforcing the case for Ultimate specifically.

Which Tier Makes Sense?

Whatever you’ve read about the Xbox Game Pass tiers’ price increase in Australia, what Microsoft actually charges today is laid out above. The decision mostly comes down to two variables: whether you want new Xbox releases at launch, and whether you use cloud gaming.

Essential is the right call for players who game on console or PC, have no interest in streaming, and don’t need first-party titles at launch. PC Game Pass suits PC-only players who want EA Play folded in.

Premium is the middle ground for console and PC players who want a broader library and occasional cloud play without paying for day-one access. Ultimate earns its price if you game on multiple devices, want every Xbox first-party title on release day, and will actually use EA Play and Ubisoft+ Classics.

Pick Your Tier Before the Trial Expires

The AU$1.00 trial isn’t limited to Essential, PC Game Pass, and Premium. Microsoft runs it as a recurring promotional offer on Ultimate too, though it comes and goes by account and region rather than being a permanent fixture. When it’s live, starting there and upgrading is the low-risk path: you get 14 days to test the library and cloud gaming against your actual habits before the full monthly rate kicks in.
