It looks like Sony has started a secret closed playtest for Fairgame$.

The page is hosted on Player.gg and includes pre-alpha screenshots, gameplay footage, and other details about how the game is played.

Fairgame$ May Be Quietly Testing Under the ‘Project Espresso’ Codename

Reddit user GeneProfessional9862 shared that they received an invitation to take part in the playtest. While the registration page does not mention Fairgame$ by name and instead calls the project an “unannounced competitive action shooter,” the details closely match Haven Studios’ game, leading many to connect Project Espresso to Fairgame$.

The biggest clue is the gameplay itself. The leaked playtest description uses the tagline, “Get in. Get out. Get paid.”

The playtest describes the game as a third-person PvPvE competitive action game “where competing teams race to infiltrate high-security locations, steal valuable cargo, and make it out before their rivals.”

That gameplay closely matches what has been shown and described for Fairgame$, which is built around competitive heists where teams go after valuable loot while facing other players.

Taken together, the third-person gameplay, PvPvE setup, and game description have led many fans to connect Project Espresso directly with Fairgame$. Still, there is no official confirmation from Sony or Haven Studios that Project Espresso is Fairgame$, so we should take this with a pinch of salt. Fairgame$ is also one of Sony’s remaining live-service pushes, which has faced some massive struggles in recent years. Concord flopped at launch and was quickly taken offline, while projects including Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us Online were canceled before release. With those failures, there will likely be even more attention on Fairgame$ and whether Haven Studios can make this one a success.

And Sony’s recent problems haven’t stopped with live-service games. In related news, PlayStation unexpectedly ended its collaboration with Kojima Productions on the upcoming action-espionage game Physint, with Hideo Kojima later finding a new partner in Xbox to keep the project alive.

In addition, Marvel’s Wolverine has also received a more mixed response from critics than Sony might have hoped for so far.
